One of the top-selling rowing machines right now is the Stamina Air Rower (1399 model), because this is said to offer a really good full-body workout despite being a fraction of the price of a water rower or a Concept 2 model, for instance.
So in this article I want to take a good look at this relatively low-cost model to help you decide whether or not this particular rowing machine is right for you.

Dimensions / Weight
The exact dimensions of this Stamina Air Rower are 77 (L) x 18 (W) x 22 (H) when fully assembled, and 48 (L) x 18 (W) x 28 (H) when folded away, and despite it’s strong construction, it is fairly light as it weighs just 55 lbs.
The one feature that makes this Stamina Air Rower stand out is that it has an intelligent air resistance system that responds to your every stroke. So in other words, if you want to increase the resistance, you simply increase the intensity of your rowing strokes, and vice versa if you want to reduce the resistance.
This is a common feature of the Concept 2 models and some of the other gym-standard machines, so it’s great to see this kind of intelligent resistance employed on this low-cost machine, particularly as this guarantees a very smooth rowing stroke as well.
Another thing I like about this particular model is that unlike a lot of rowing machines, this one has a padded seat, which means that you should be able to use it for long periods of time without any problems.
Plus it also comes equipped with a performance monitor right in front of you that will help you track your progress because it displays all of the basics such as time, speed, distance and total calories burned, and appears to be strong enough to withstand regular use because of its solid steel construction, with no movement at all during your workout.
Finally there are also a few extra features that I like about this Stamina Air Rower 1399 model. For instance, I like the fact that you can fold it away when it is not being used, and I like the fact that is relatively light and includes transport wheels because this obviously means that you can move it around fairly easily.
As with most items of fitness equipment, there are a few drawbacks. For example, it doesn’t come with a pulse monitor, which isn’t really a major issue, but I know that some people like to monitor their pulse rate during their workout to see how hard they are working.
In addition, there are no workout programs included with this Stamina Air Rower rowing machine, which you might require if you are a more seasoned rower, but this isn’t really a problem if you are someone who just likes to cover a certain distance each time, or row for a specific length of time.
Finally, although it is a relatively straight forward 15-30 minute job, there is some assembly required when you take it out of the box for the first time, but unfortunately this is true of pretty much all items of exercise equipment nowadays.
If you take a look at some of the customer reviews on Amazon, you will see that the feedback has largely been very positive.
One or two people have complained that it is a little noisy and a few people have complained that it doesn’t have variable resistance levels.
However most people seem to like this intelligent air resistance system, and seem to be very happy with their purchase overall because it provides a smooth, comfortable workout that works the whole body.
Furthermore people seem to like the fact that it was easy to assemble and is a very solid construction (with some reporting that they use it every day without any problems), whilst still being light enough to move around and easy to fold away.
Of course it doesn’t compare with the excellent Concept 2 rowers, as a few people have pointed out, but considering that it is a lot cheaper than these top-rated rowing machines, many seem to agree that this is a pretty good machine for beginners and intermediate rowers, and represents excellent value for money.
